通信教育 Tsūshin Kyōiku
(Distance Learning)
Back in 1995 the Nippon Budō Seishin-Kan became one of the
first dōjō to offer a distance learning programme for
budōka who
were unable to train regularly at a local Jikishin-Kai member dōjō. This programme was developed by Shimabukuro Masayuki
Hanshi and Leonard Pellman Shihan, and was put into operation
shortly after the publication of Flashing Steel.
That original tsūshin kyōiku programme required
participants to mail VHS tapes of themselves performing
prescribed fundamentals, kata, and waza. Those tapes were
reviewed and critiqued by Pellman Shihan, who then videotaped
himself demonstrating corrections and improvements for the
participants to practice and mailed the critiques and corrective
videos back to the participants. It was a time-consuming,
cumbersome, and comparatively expensive process that required
participants to own or have access to a VHS camcorder, VCR, and video
tapes. The advent of the Internet and the proliferation of
webcams and cellphone video has made this a much more efficient
and inexpensive process!
If sufficient interest develops, we would reinstitute a far
more robust and much less expensive programme of online
instruction using current technologies like teleconferencing
(Zoom, etc.). In the meantime, we do offer online access—currently
at no charge—to a number of instructional videos,
books, and
web articles on the topics listed below:
